Regenie’s Treasure Crisps
A Treasure of pleasure
BY CAMILLE DODERO
On each sack of Regenie’s Treasure Crisps, there’s a cute li’l lipsticked genie floating on a square pita chip — the point being that these rectangular refreshments are thin and airy, not thick and crusty like the Haverhill-based company’s other pita product line, Crunchy Pitas. And after inhaling two servings, er, containers of Treasure Crisps (which I’ll blame on their being so tasty), I can confirm that these starchy snacks are light and flaky, their bubbled textures dusted with a layer of savory, sharp herbs. Available in Roasted Garlic & Romano and Cream Cheese & Dill, the all-natural baked and fried bits ( " They’re lightly paddled through oil, " one employee explains over the phone) definitely don’t need to be paired with a dip as each bag suggests — both kinds are piquant enough without any other flavor. If anything, Treasure Crisps could stand to be served with napkins: after a few handfuls, you’ll be speckled with seasoning.
Available for $2.99 for a six-ounce bag at local Shaw’s and FoodMaster locations. Call (978) 521-4370, or visit www.regenies.com
